Jewish Dating In Toronto
June 18
Oy vey, this is much harder than i thought...

I'd like to think of myself as an open, communicative, fit  and successful guy. Dating girls in general has never been an issue for me. But i tell you the older you get the more challenging this seems. Finding true love is hard enough, finding one in your late 30s seems more difficult, finding a Jewish match and in Toronto, this seems almost like an impossible mission these days.
According to my book there are 5 ways to meet a nice Jewish girl in Toronto these days.
1. Online dating,  growing more popular. They say 1out of 5 couples now meets online. JDate of course, Plenty of Fish, Lavalife, Facebook etc.
2. Family and friends and friend of friends, and friends of friends of friends making a "shiduch". This is a serious minefield.
3. Networking around, venturing to synagogues, arranged events, like Jewish Speed-dating, Jew meets Jew parties, Jewish single hotline etc.
4. The lucky, "never happens to me", arbitrary coincidental , at the supermarket, Yonge and Eglington bar, post office, dog walking ..meeting.
5. An arranged Jewish match, by a professional Jewish matchmaker, also called a yente, or the more Orthodox way of involving the Rabbi in this "holy" challenge.

So let me know what you think of any of the above, or if you feel i missed any.. which would really make me glad and hopeful. In the next few weeks i will fill you in on my experiences around the above mentioned scenarios and would love your feedback on it.

There certainly seem to be a lot of 'options' for dating. I know from my friends that it seems that dating in your 30's gets more and more difficult. Why don't you post about what you are looking for in a woman and maybe you will get some interest here... I look forward to reading more about your dating experiences and I wish you luck in finding your soul mate. Monday June 28th 2010 22:00 | Stefanie
Thanks for your comment. Talk to any Jewish single in Toronto and you'll hear the same. It's near impossible to meet new people and expand beyond your regular social networks. Also, the Tomato, TomAto, different Jewish backgrounds, culture gaps, and different mentalities that vary make it more challenging. So what to do ? Try to go online... so many Jewish newly wed couples in recent years have met online, it's amazing. As a matter of fact my sister did, and tfu tfu, we're all happy. My Mom who was initially worried about the whereabouts of my sisters credit cards is now the biggest fan of JDate.
